Babatunde Onadele Jr. has led construction endeavours worth over $250 million, including schools, church and apartment rehabilitations, and nearly 400 affordable housing units in the Bay Area. Presently, he supervises 15 team members across five regional projects.
Beyond his notable accomplishments, Onadele excels in advocating for diversity and equity in construction. He mentors students via Peninsula College Fund, serves on the board of San Jose African American Community Service Agency, and is vice chair of DE&I Committee for Associated General Contractors of California.
“In my capacity as vice chair, I am effecting change by raising awareness about the imperative of cultivating a diverse workforce,” explains Onadele. The committee’s efforts encompass educating industry members about optimal hiring practices, recognizing unconscious biases, promoting subcontractor diversity, and more. Acknowledging that progress involves shifting mindsets, he emphasizes that the efforts made today will yield transformative results in the future.
“Our committee recognizes that this endeavour involves ‘changing hearts and minds,’ a process not instantaneous. However, I’m optimistic that the seeds we sow today will yield meaningful results in the future.”
